Marinette County Administrator John Lefebvre addressed the concerns of community members about the closure of the River Cities Pool during the monthly county board meeting yesterday morning. Currently, the draft amendment between the UW Board of Regents and Marinette County has been reviewed by both corporation councils and is ready to be signed. However, they are waiting on the board of regents to make it a formal decision that it will take place at the end of February. Lefebvre says, “the lease will be amended on July 1st and it will then be under full control by Marinette County and UW will be out of the Fieldhouse.”
Lefebvre says, “River Cities Community Pool Association Board has made no formal decisions to dissolve the corporation nor have they given any notice to UW or the County that they wish to terminate the existing agreement.”
June of 2023 will mark the River Cities Pool 14th year as the operator of the pool at the UW Fieldhouse. In an email sent to Lefebvre, River Cities Pool states that they remain just as committed to securing and maintaining the public use of the pool as they were in 2009. As of now, various entities such as the City of Marinette and the YMCA show interest helping or partnering with River Cities Pool but ultimately it is up to the Marinette County Board to decide what happens with pool and the fieldhouse.
